The Millennium Side Chapel
and Columbarium

As part of the celebrations for the Year 2000, Rathfarnham Parish renovated and created a
new Millennium Chapel and Columbarium.

The Columbarium is an intimate space for the interment of ashes with an attractive small seating area and backlit stained glass feature, depicting the Roman soldiers asleep while guarding the tomb of Christ (originally in the former St George’s Church in Hardwicke Place).

The stained glass was donated by Dean Ernon Perdue and the Perdue family in memory of their wife and mother, Heather. It was restored by Stephen Moss of The Blue Glass Studio, and the multi-coloured frame of glass in which it sits was designed and built by stained-glass artist Joan Forsdyke. The bench and backrest were built by David Whyte and upholstered by Pauline Baldwin.
